Zee 24Ghantalu turns a dream into reality
Jul 01, 2010
Journalism is also social responsibility. Zee 24Ghantalu once again proves it really means what it practices.
In the channel’s journey recently the case of a 14 year old girl Swapna came forward. She had come all the way from Kerala to Hyderabad in search her parents. Eight years back Swapna, who was fairly young then, went missing from Hyderabad and somehow boarded a train which took her to Kerala. Finding a child without parents, an NGO – Don Bosco – took her in their fold and since then Swapna is in Kerala studying there. Few months back Swapna expressed her desire to go back to Hyderabad and find her parents.
Swapna came to Hyderabad along with officials of Don Bosco. Zee 24Ghantalu’s reporter Inna Reddy covered this story for the channel. Coming to know about this girl and her plight, Zee 24Ghantalu took up it as a mission. Swapna wanted to find and meet her parents and the channel wanted Swapna to realize her long cherished dream.
As first step the channel aired Swapna’s story extensively with a view and purpose that this news would reach every nook and corner and the goal will be achieved. Swapna was widely seen and now recognized all over Andhra Pradesh through this effort. Lot of people called and sympathized with her.
One day, a couple – Venkataiah and Padma – came rushing to the office claiming that Swapna was their long lost child. The couple provided every detail available with them. Such as the F.I.R copy of their missing child and recollected all marks on her body.
However, the body language and the reactions were the only communication between Swapna and the couple. Swapna now know’s only Malayalam and can not speak or understand Telugu. On the other hand, Venkataiah and Padma know only Telugu.
To scientifically establish that Venkataiah and Padma are parents of Swapna, a DNA test is being undertaken. If the DNA test establishes that Venkataiah, Padma are parents of Swapna her dream will become reality.
The channel has once again been able to turn a dream to reality.
